Sing-a-Long with Noah

Cartoon’s transcript

There were giants on the earth in those days, mighty men, men of renown. However, the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

So… just bad guys? That’s not a good start to a story, who is the hero? Who saves the day? In order to tell a captivating story, you need to include all the elements of a hero, a villain, their motivation, the climax and the resolu…

Narrator: Yes, yes, I see you have been going to film school already. Well, interrupting child, I have good news for you. You see, there is a hero to this story and his name… is Noah.

Noah had found grace in the eyes of God; he was considered righteous because he obeyed God and lived His way of life. From among all those who lived in that time only this man, his wife, their three sons and their wives would survive the coming calamity.

The rest of mankind were evil and the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. Therefore, He said “I will destroy man who I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

God gave instructions for Noah to build an ark…

What’s an ark?

Well technically it’s a box, sort of like a memory box where you put things that are valuable to you.

So, they’re just gonna build a box?

Well, in this case it’s a giant floating box. Sort of lie a rather big boat.

Oh I like boats, when I grow up I’m gonna be a pirate!

Yes, lovely. But as I was saying…

Shem, Ham, Japheth!

Yes father, what do you need of us?

I have received instruction for our Creator to build a giant box.

A box?

Well to be more precise, a boat! A rather large boat made out of gopherwood. It’s going to have multiple compartments for housing animals, to be covered in black sticky tar so it’s waterproof and it’s going to have a window and a door and… AND a huge tent that covers it!

But why father, why are we to make a huge floating ark? And when did you want to do this, you see I have an appointment at noon.

Oh boys, don’t worry about your appointments. This is going to take years! Afterall, I am well over 500 years old, as you know…

Wait, what!? He can’t be over 500 years old. He’d be dead!

Well, back in those days people lived for much longer than we do today. The oldest man recorded was Noah’s grandfather, Methuselah, who lived until he was 969 years old!

Mind. Blown.

So, after many years of construction the ark was almost complete…

Oh, come on!? How long does it take to build a boat!? I used to have a wonderful view of the rolling hills, now all I can see is gopherwood! [grumbling] that noisy Noah and his boys, now what was I doing? Oh, that’s right, something evil…

Now God had informed Noah that He was bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth will die. But Noah was to bring creatures of every kind onto the ark, one male and one female and of the clean animals there were to be seven pairs.

Clean animals? So, some of the animals took a bath and the others didn’t?

No, but that’s an excellent question! Clean animals were the ones that Noah and his family could eat. They called them “clean” because God would have given instructions on His food laws so that he could tell the difference between clean and unclean animals.

Don’t eat me, I’m unclean!

Thus, Noah did according to all that God commanded Him and the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation.”

He thinks he’s going a cruise! Who ordered the floating zoo and forgot about the water?

Uh oh! It’s raining, where did I leave my umbrella?

Then after seven days of waiting on the ark the rains began and all the fountains of the great deep were broken up and the windows of heaven were opened. It rained for forty days and forty nights. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth so that even the mountains were covered.

Whoa! That’s deep. So, no one survived?

Only Noah and his family, along with all the animals that were with them.

What about the whales and the fish!?

And the crabs!?

Well, the Bible doesn’t provide all the details but God preserved all the sea life that we see in the oceans, lakes and rivers today. However, everything else upon the land was washed away as the waters remained on the earth for 150 days.

That’s a long time to be at sea… I hope Noah and his family didn’t get seasick!

Well, they must have had a lot of work on their hands with all those animals to provide for…

Did ya wash the mongoose dear?

No I didn’t get to bathe him yet.

Did ya feed the lion dear?

Oh I think he is eating the crab.

Hey Ho and off we go, there’s no land left for us

The rains fell, the waters rose but ya know in God we trust.

Did ya scrub the poop deck love?

No I’m busy making food.

Did ya lock the tigers cage?

Oh you know how he likes to browse the menu.

Hey Ho and off we go, there’s no land left for us

The rains fell, the waters rose but ya know in God we trust.

Hey Ho and off we go, my boys, the wives and me.

All life on board this boat will one day be set free.

Did ya pack your finest robe?

No, I thought you packed for me?

What about your toothbrush dear?

Oh I guess it’s under the sea!

Don’t tell me you left your hat!

I was kinda busy building this boat!

I can’t believe you forgot all that,

It’s ok love, we’re still afloat.

Hey Ho and off we go, there’s no land left for us

The rains fell, the waters rose but ya know in God we trust.

Hey Ho and off we go, we’re bobbin’ on the sea.

Hey Ho and did you know, these animals smell like…

Oh they smell lovely darling, just like you!

Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. The ark came to rest in the mountains of Ararat. Over a year later, after sending out birds to try and tell if the land had recovered, Noah and his family were instructed to come out of the ark and to be fruitful and multiply, to repopulate the earth.

So, they were on top of a mountain? How did they climb down with all those animals?

Well, it doesn’t say they were on top of a mountain, but in a mountain region. God is merciful and leaving them high and dry on top of a mountain would be…

Impractical?

Exactly! Now Noah built an altar to God and made a burnt offering of all the clean animals and birds and God said He would never again destroy the earth by a flood. “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer and day and night shall not cease.”

So, we don’t have to worry about climate change!?

That’s right kid, while we need to tend and keep the planet and reduce pollution, God promised that the seasons will remain.

Phew! That’s a relief!

The End?

Hmm, or maybe it’s just the beginning?
